The Philosophy The Artist The Studio
John Marxhausen is an original. His artistry, infused with creative passion, has been refined by more than 30 years of experience as a jewelry designer and goldsmith. Since establishing his jewelry design business and retail jewelry store in 1975, John has earned consistent recognition and customer devotion.
John is celebrated for his ability to connect with a person’s vision – even as they seek to chisel their ideas into tangible expression. He maintains a focus beyond himself: “It’s not about me. It’s about creating what can be the most significant piece of jewelry in a person’s life.”
His early experience, apprenticing in a large jewelry manufacturing business, provided insights that shaped his philosophy on the design process. That philosophy is: Jewelry should be lasting and beautiful, but it also should be comfortable and functional.
Perhaps the single greatest influence on the Marxhausen style is the calming, powerful presence of Lake Superior. One can see the impact of this nearby natural wonder in his work. Flowing lines, rising and falling in crests and tides, move through his rings. And just as the lake etches sand and stone into infinite shapes and tones, John continues crafting unique works of art with the natural tools of instinct and experience.
